Nutrition tips for after the festive season.

The holidays are finally over, with some of us having overindulged quite a bit and others having stuck to their healthy eating goals! However, any little slip-ups can be put right with the right guidance and a few simple steps:

Set new, achievable goals

Your new goals should be specific, achievable and realistic, with a clear timeframe that does not leave you feeling pressured or anxious.

Do not let shame or the urge to punish yourself guide your actions

Everyone is allowed to make mistakes and take a step backwards. Being negative towards ourselves can lead us to adopt unhealthy approaches and repeat mistakes in the future. With proper planning, we can get back on track!

Follow a balanced diet rather than a restrictive one

Restrictive diets are driven by vanity and desperation, without any methodical or scientific basis. Such diets offer no promise of long-term weight loss. A balanced, evidence-based diet can change our relationship with food!

Stay hydrated and cut back on alcohol

Fluid retention over the festive season results from poor eating habits, drinking alcohol and inadequate hydration. Drinking at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day will help us feel revitalised!

Increase your physical activity

Increasing physical activity and exercising regularly improves our metabolism, immune system, sleep, eating patterns, mental wellbeing and self-confidence!
